On the feast of the Nativity of Our Lady Mary Mother of God of 2026, i.e. the 8th of September 2026 we have witnessed one of the biggest changes in the history of human intellectual endeavor, one of the hardest and most sough after problems in mathematics applied to physics, the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem, has just been solved in 88 hours by 10000 agentic AI beings owned and operated by OpenAI. And the conjecture believed by a lot of people to be true is actually false. Navier-Stokes equations do break under certain conditions. This is a Fields Medal level discovery!
Now the future is easy to predict, soon AI will be capable to prove or disprove every mathematical proposition that will be given at it. So the main task of mathematicians is soon to be completely automatize. I think that this would be easy to predict, math is in fact similar to a language, so it would be silly thinking that LLMs, that are large language models, were not capable to deal with it. As the most part of human intellect is some sort of language, one would ask oneself what will be spared by these new monsters? I suppose almost nothing.
I in fact predict that in the next 6 months at least 2 millennium problems will be solved by an AI, and that in this first phase of automated math (1 year from now) more proposition will be proven to be false than true.
But other than talking about prophecies i think it is useful to deal with the most common worry of the young people out there: what will be my value in a world where I cannot offer my time in exchange for money? If, as most people horrendously believe, money is everything what will be our part in the world of the future. Well, I would certainly argue that while artificial intelligence will be very good at doing things we studied for, I cannot see a way in which it could for example do agriculture, mechanics, or other so called blue-collar labor, for me this is very far to happen. The sad part is that all the value people like me had accumulated in studying and mastering intellectual faculties is now pretty much worthless, and nobody is happy with this, even the people like me that started studying physics for the fun of it, nevertheless is hard to admit that the assets we invested in is now tragically and drastically depreciated. Just the wrong timing.
I would argue that this will reshape strongly our human morality in very funny ways, now studying and intelligence will be somewhat worthless, and so for the period consisting of the new few decades athleticism, strength and physical beauty will gain moral value, in this already sick society. In fact even if a car is faster than a runner, still the runner is cheered because of the convoluted sport morality and ethics, because as people put it in a very comfortable and false euphemism: "athletes are inspiring to them", what exactly does this mean is hard to grasp maybe an AI could convince you of some theory it invented and knows it is false, but is so convincing that everyone would fall for it.
