The Sacred Places Where I Have Been

Italy

Sanctuary of the "Madonna del Tufo" (Rocca di Papa, Rome, Aug. 16th 2026)

On the side of Monte Cavo opposite to the side where the small town of Rocca di Papa lies, there is a small church named in honor to the "Madonna del Tufo" (Lady of Tufo). Today, the first Sunday after the feast of the Assumption of Mary (Aug. 15th), is the feast of this particular sanctuary and the bishop of Frascati (that also has now the title of bishop of Velletri-Segni) his eminence Don Stefano Russo has come to celebrate mass here, it is the second time he comes. The number of participants, mostly of the native population, is circa 200 people. The priest in head of this church is Don Joele, a Filipino Missionary. The church is a typical well decorated Roman-style church, to be noted that there is a big stone block over the altar with Our Lady painted. This because the sanctuary was erected after a miracle happened: a knight passing on the street where now the church lies faced death because of a big stone block falling from the mountain side, but as he asked the Virgin Mary to help him She interceded to the father and the rock stopped saving the pious traveller.

Thanks for the attention, Aug. 2026, Rome, Tommaso Virgilii.
